Lim gasket 3800.

The upper intake manifold is a very common failure point on the venerable GM 3800 Series II engine. Often when it begins to fail, the car will show the symptoms of a head gasket failure, however actual head gaskets failing on this engine is VERY rare. One of the first signs of the intake manifold failure is coolant loss, these intakes can leak internally into the engine, or externally near the ...

A factual anecdotal note for fans of the metal framed LIM gaskets whether 3100/3400 or SII 3800. I did a job on a GM car (GA GT) with 3400 V6 engine with the revised GM metal LIM gaskets. The metal portions of the port gasket frames were pitted and corroded. Also, it looked liked electrolysis was taking effect eating away at the aluminum lower ...Anatomy of a Lower Intake Manifold (LIM) gasket fail: causes and symptoms The most common failures of the 3800 engine are spark plugs, wires, MAF...IIRC the list price for the 3100/3400 gasket set is $130 or so from NAPA. I would imagine the 3800 set to be similarly expensive. Order it from NAPA and make sure to request the aluminum-backed one. They probably keep them in stock so it wouldn't be an issue for them to open the package to verify. It's not a Dex-Cool problem, BTW.Manifold Gasket.. You would need the Gen V to L67 TB adapter to bolt your TB to the L26. And, since the L26 TB neck is longer than the L36, you may need to do some ...

its a pretty straight forward gasket replacement. Drain the coolant. Remove the fuel Rails. remove the Supercharger ( leave the TB on) remove the Lower intake. wipe up any coolant in the block. flush some oil down the valley of the motor. and then reinstall.2) measure pressure with key on, engine running. (should be 40-50 (lower than engine off value) 3) goose throttle and watch pressure. (should maintain pressure, not decrease) 4) disconnect vacuum to fuel regulator, measure pressure. (should immediately increase and hold) 5) reattach vacuum to fuel regulator, shut engine off.

I have the LIM off, the gasket is definetly wasted... totally blown apart as usual right at the coolant ports. But heres the problem with the lifters.... Have an 03 Impala LS 3800 @ 117K miles. In process of a L36-L26 upper swap and new gaskets for LIM/UIM. Have more planned on this. Just noticed a slow total coolant leak of 1/2 -3/4 gal over last few months, so go this going. I cleaned up the LIM today and saw pitting around the coolant ports...

The issue of LIM gaskets on the NA SII 3800 engine regardless of GP year '97-'03 is not whether they will go bad or cause issues but just a matter of when. Here are some better resolution pics (800X600) out of my collection on the upper part (UIM) and new LIM gaskets (FelPro).

I am interested in purchasing a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3800 with only 84K miles on it. Everything inside and out is pretty much mint. However, there is a definite oil smell when running and when looking under the hood, there is oil (I think it is oil) visible along the entire length of the front/top of the engine.Pan is steel, and looks to be held on by a frame between bolts and the pan itself. Up top, looks like it's also coming from the valley seal for the LIM. Coming from the corner nearest firewall on front side of motor, and making it's way down. Seems straight forward enough, oe LIM gaskets are a well known weak point on the 3800.Do you have the EGR on the car still? If yes, unbolt the tube from the EGR to LIM and look at each end holding it up to light. Move the holding piece around a bit. These thin tubes like to crack. A bad TB gasket seal will also cause the code. A poor electrical connection can cause this (check battery connections for any signs of corrosion)So I blew a head gasket, and that is fine as I was in the desert rooting on it for a couple hours straight. When the lower intake gaskets get old, the seals around coolant ports begins to seep a bit. And when the engine cools, the oil near these ports gets sucked into the coolant as it cools.Mar 19, 2019. #10. Apparently some are not familiar with the F-body version of the 3800. Possible causes of leaks in that area are: -Throttle body to UIM (check William's post, the UIM passages degrade and crumble and can cause leaks). -coolant bypass (sits just below the throttle body on the LIM). -leaking out the the LIM gaskets and following a track until it gets out the end between the LIM and block. -Larry.Jun 18, 2013. #5. Yeah and the upper intake was also a sure killer on the earler model series IIs. The later series II supercharged with a rod knock is kind of surprising, but could've been due to the lower gasket. (I don't think the Buick-derived cast rods was a strong suit either, cast rods higher rod/bearing failure rates). That some bad luck.Jun 3, 2011 · 3) Add distilled water (buy bulk from a supermarket) through the thermostat housing until full. 4) suction out from lower rad hose. 5) repeat steps 3-4 until the washings come clear. 6) fill completely with distilled water, connect rad hose and thermostat housing.
